The trouble continues for Simcoe Grey MP Helena Guergis.
As the federal Liberals are asking the federal ethics commissioner to look into the big mortgage that was given to the Tory cabinet minister.
They want to know if Guergis got preferential treatment, after reports that she was given a mortgage for the full 880 thousand dollar cost of an Ottawa home.
Liberal MP Marlene Jennings says reports suggest a Bank of Nova Scotia branch in Edmonton gave the mortgage without asking for a down payment.
And Jennings adds that the conflict of interest code for MP’s stipulates that representatives or family members can’t accept, either directly or indirectly, a gift or benefit that may be an attempt to influence the MP.
Recently, Guergis has been under heavy fire after her aides wrote letters of praise to local newspapers without saying they worked for the MP, and for throwing a tantrum at Charlottetown airport in February.
