A provincial Ministry of Education Operational review of the Bluewater District School Board has found the board is doing a good job in four separate areas.
Director of Education Mary Ann Alton says the review highlights many leading practices now in place in the board.
She says the review focused on four areas — Governance and Administration, Human Resource Management, Financial Management and School Operations and Facilities Management.
Alton says the review found Bluewater had the appropriate measures in place surrounding the responsibilities of Trustees and the administrative team to ensure student achievement.
The board received a pat on the back from the Ministry for its on going good relationship with its unions and its Human Resources practices.
Alton says the board was, in the Ministry’s opinion, also doing well in the areas of Financial Management and School Operations.
She says the Ministry did find the board could do better by articulating more clearly to the public just what they were doing and including that in a multi year strategic plan.
She says this review has shown the boards leading practices are being used in a way that allows them to focus their resources on student learning.
Alton says its not just the Bluewater board under review, but 72 other school boards across the province.
She says that will allow the Bluewater board to adopt the exemplary practices of other boards and in turn they can adopt some of the leading practices of this board.
