One of Canada’s Outstanding Principals is a West Hill High Owen Sound alumni.
Cathy Lee is a principal in Pengerton Nunavut which is south of the 66th parallel the arctic circle.
Lee is a graduate of West hill Secondary but has been a principal for 15 years.
Lee has been named one of 30 outstanding principals in Canada this year.
Lee was nominated from staff and has been chosen for some of her innovative ideas within her school.
One of the things that Lee has introduced into the school is combining the Inuit heritage into the curriculum.
The school is bilingual with Inuit language and english.
Lee says she remembers her days at West Hill with fondness – the principal was Eldred Crawford.
She remembers Crawford as having patience and kindness.
Lee humbly says that she credits her staff and students for having such a strong school.
