The Blue Mountains Mayor has decided she’s going to run for another term.
Ellen Anderson has filed her papers for the October municipal election saying she loves her job and wants to continue to help the town become sustainable and healthy.
She says moving forward she’d like to continue to concentrate on environmental concerns as well.
To that end — Anderson says she’d like to continue with her role on the Southern Georgian Bay Coastal Initiative working to develop a waterfront management plan from Penetanguishene to Tobermory.
Anderson also says affordable housing is a huge priority for a region in which its very expensive to live.
The Mayor would also like to see the medical clinic in Thornbury completed in an effort to attract more family doctors to the town.
And of course, she says creating jobs is also up there on her priority list.
So far, two other candidates have also filed papers.
Businessman Sheldon Rosen, owner of Lodges at Blue Mountain says his priority would be to attract more tourism to the region.
Anderson says Blue Mountains has been host to several national events including the Skins Game, The Ford Wayne Gretzky Classic, the training of NHL refs and the Ontario Winter Games to name a few.
Her other challenger is resident Marshall Heatherington who says he believes council has its priorities wrong building a new town hall ahead of the medical clinic.
Anderson says they received 4.5 million dollars for the town hall and weren’t about to turn that down.
Candidates have until September 10th to file their papers for the October 25th municipal election.
