A fishing derby with a difference will be held in our area today.
The Collingwood Optimist Club is holding an ice fishing derby at the Collingwood Harbour.
But it’s a short one, it only runs from 2 PM to 4 PM.
Optimist Club Spokesperson Ralph Sneyd says the ice is 18 inches think so all anglers will be safe.
Sneyd says a number of holes have been drilled in a marked section of the Harbour.
He tells us tickets are 25 dollars and half the money raised will be winnings for the heaviest fish with the other half of the money going to various programs the Optimist Club has started.
They include soccer, ruby and instrumental programs for young people.
Anyone can take part in the fishing derby, but if you’re over 18 you have to have a valid fishing license.
