A big question hangs over those designing the Chesley Medical Clinic; whether or not to add a basement and elevator.
Arran Elderslie Mayor Ron Oswald says he is all for it.
Oswald says the basement doesn’t have to be finished, neither does the elevator – but at least the groundwork would be laid – if the time came it was decided both were needed.
He says those against the idea aren’t looking at the big picture; they see it as and extra expense at six hundred thousand dollars more.
Oswald says though – if they don’t add those things – and realize in a few years they want them – it may be very difficult or even impossible due to a lack of space.
The next meeting about the Medical Clinic will be held March 30th at the Chesley Community Centre at 7 PM..
That’s when the public will be presented with the centre’s plans.
Oswald wants council to make a decision before that meeting on the basement and elevator issue.
Plans to double the clinic meanwhile – were recently given a funding boost.
The Chesley Hospital Foundation announced in January it was pledging four hundred thousand dollars toward the estimated 1.6 million dollar cost.
