A new restaurant on the site of the former Burger King on the Sunset Strip is another step closer to reality.
Owen Sound Bar BQ and Grill received site plan approval from Georgian Bluffs council on Wednesday.
Owner Stephen Cheung can now apply for a building permit to do the necessary work inside the building, which has been vacant for almost five years.
Cheung says his plans are for a family restaurant seating 100 people and a sports bar which would accommodate 60 more and would also include an outdoor patio.
Township planner Bev Nicolson told council that even though the building has been empty since the summer of 2005, no zoning changes are required because the property has never accommodated anything but a restaurant.
Georgian Bluffs Mayor Alan Barfoot and the rest of council are excited about the project, and site plan approval passed with only positive comments.
Barfoot says his understanding is that Owen Sound Bar BQ and Grill is to be open for business in the spring, perhaps as early as April.
