Hanover’s Holy Family School is gearing up for the new Early Learning Program.
Superintendent Catherine Montreuil says staff are busy developing the new Early Learning Program.
This Spring the School Board will be posting and hiring early childhood educators for the program.
This will be followed by team training by both the ECE workers and kindergarten teachers.
The average class size will be 26 with a 13 to 1 student to educator ratio. Each class will be staffed with a teacher and an early childhood educator.
If there is enough interest the school will also offer before and after school daycare services which will be run by the early childhood worker.
Montreuil suspects there will be enough interest to do this. No plans at this time to extend the before and after school program to older students.
So far Holy Family School has 48 of its 53 kindergarten spaces filled.
Holy Family School is the only school within the Catholic Board to offer the new Early Learning full day everyday program.
The program will be extended to an additional school in the Fall of 2011.
