It wasn’t just Olympians playing in the snow this weekend.
Local residents taking part in this year’s Rotary Winterama managed to raise 25 thousand dollars for a variety of kids programs.
Port Elgin played host to several events including snowshoeing, skiing and skating which raised about three thousand dollars.
A road hockey tournament in Owen Sound earlier this month added another 34 hundred to the coffers while the balance of the money came from events in Shallow Lake.
Half of the money raised is distributed to kids programs in Saugeen Shores and South Bruce Peninsula while the other half goes to the United Way Rotary Children’s Fund.
The total is about three thousand dollars more than last year when weather put a damper on the annual event.
