Grey Highlands is asking for a consultants report on the water system in Markdale.
The issue was raised recently by Chamber of Commerce President Doug Crawford, and the Co-owner and General Manager of Chapmans’ Ice Cream, Penny Chapman.
Chapman says there is not enough water and the pressure in the village is too low to supply the sprinkler system at the new factory.
Chapman also warned Markdale could lose out on a new hospital because the water system couldn’t support a sprinkler system in that proposed facility.
Grey Highlands Mayor Brian Mullin says a resolution is going to Council on Monday to have a report prepared on the water supply and whether any changes are needed.
Mullin defends the water system in Markdale, saying there is plenty of water and the lines from the water tower are not an issue.
He says they have unused capacity, but says a study should be done because of a number of new developments being proposed for the village of Markdale.
