Plenty of number crunching in council’s chambers in Saugeen Shores today.
Councillors are meeting for a second day to hammer out the 2010 budget.
They met yesterday with a few department heads and will continue that process today.
Deputy Mayor Doug Frieburger says they are trying to be both fair and cautious at the same time when looking at each operational department.
He says they also have to balance need with the economy and what it can bear too.
Frieburger says all departments are working hard to make any tax increase as close to the bottom line as possible.
He says they began yesterday – with all wishes granted at an increase of more than nine per cent – but says obviously that’s unrealistic and they will be chipping that down where they can.
There is no magic number yet – they are working towards.
The talks are open to the public and run today from 9 AM to 4:30 PM.
