Doing your homework may really pay off big for some students with the Bruce Grey Catholic School Board.
This year there is 36 thousand dollars worth of scholarship and bursary money up for grabs.
The lions share of the money will be shared between students at Walkerton’s Sacred Heart and Owen Sound’s St. Marys High Schools.
Superintendent of Business Cathy Colton says students have an excellent chance to qualify for some of the funding since there are only 2 schools.
The scholarship and bursary dollars aren’t just earmarked for academic achievement — some will go to aid students with financial needs or those entering a specific type of post secondary programs.
Overall the Catholic Board’s scholarship trust fund sits at 1 million 65 thousand dollars.
Colton says the Trust Fund has come along way since its humble beginnings in 1979 when it started with just 65 thousand dollars.
In order to keep the scholarship funds perpetual, the school board reinvests a portion of the interest from this money each year.
