The President of the Bruce County Federation of Agriculture is upbeat about Huron-Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell’s new job.
Lorne Underwood says there’s nothing better than having the Agriculture Minister right in your own backyard.
He says Huron-Bruce is a rural riding and believes Mitchell has picked up on the agricultural issues well.
The federation wants the province to develop a risk management program to aid farmers in certain commodities.
Underwood says farmers in all sectors are trying to turn a profit and a risk management program would help them do that.
He says it would stabilize both the farm economy and surrounding communities.
Underwood says taking on the job of Ontario Agriculture Minister is a big role and he expects Mitchell faces a huge learning curve in the process.
He says timing and scheduling will also likely be a factor for Mitchell.
