As Owen Sound gets ready for a major reconstruction of the 9th Street Bridge — one more piece of the puzzle is in place.
They’ve closed a deal to purchase the former Todd’s Sporting Goods Store situated on the bridge for 300 thousand dollars.
Mayor Ruth Lovell Stanners says it was a great deal and it will allow the city complete access to the bridge.
She says once that’s finished — in a year or so — they’ll likely fix it up and do a request for proposals.
Lovell Stanners says they may decide part of the building could be used by the city.
Either way she thinks its going to be a great building for commercial and residential use.
Meanwhile city officials are still waiting for word on another building they’re trying to purchase.
The sale of the CPR station on the east side of the harbour has been just shy of closing for the better part of a year.
Lovell Stanners says its ludicrous that its taking so long.
The only step left is approval from the federal government.
The closing deadline has once again been extended to February 28th.
Owen Sound has plans to fix up the building and offer it for lease as a commercial property.
