Despite getting help from Municipal Affairs — Council members in South Bruce Peninsula continue to have their differences.
Accusations of fraud and bootlegging were the topic of the first 15 minutes of last night’s council meeting.
Councillor Wray Lamont accused Councillor Art King of over-billing the municipality for mileage by 20 kilometres a trip.
Lamont says it went on for months last year and claims King owes the municipality hundreds of dollars.
King fired back by calling Lamont a bootlegger.
Both accusations were denied.
Lamont says bootlegging is just far fetched.
The mileage error was uncovered after resident Jim Turner calculated the kilometres from King’s house to the municipal office.
Turner says the reason why he evaluated the distance is because he heard a rumour of overcharging for mileage.
Turner says he has asked council to put a by-law in place to stop this from happening again.
During the meeting King responded to the claim by saying he was not told how to get from point A to point B — just that you will be paid from home to Town Hall.
King says he will not say anything more — but will be getting to the bottom of all the accusations.
This latest outburst follows months of fighting around the council table.
Council had a visit from a Municipal Affairs facilitator on Monday to help work on their relationship.
