Kincardine councillors are going to continue a policy that allows one third of their remuneration to be tax free.
Mayor Larry Kraemer says the government allows the tax free policy, but a bylaw must be passed once during each council term to keep it in force.
Kraemer says some people do not think it is right — but he says it is the only way for many councillors to offset their election expenses.
The tax-free resolution has no direct financial impact on the municipality.
If the resolution is not passed, the tax free provision disappears and cannot be reinstated by a future council.
