There is a lot of optimism on the farm these days despite some tough times over the past few years.
That is the result of a survey done for Farm Credit Canada which asked more than four thousand producers and agri food operators about their views on the state of agriculture.
Farm Credit Canada Western Ontario Vice President Barry Smith tells Bayshore Broadcasting News more than 55 per cent of those asked are very optimistic about the future of agriculture.
He says dairy producers were the most optimistic, followed by those involved in the poultry sector and then the crop sectors.
Smith says beef and hog producers were the least optimistic with 21 per cent of those asked saying they are pessimistic about the future.
He says one of the reasons dairy and poultry producers were feeling good about the future is because of supply management where they are guaranteed a stable price for their products.
Smith says the survey shows that making a profit was cited as the biggest challenge for 2010.
He says some of the opportunities the farmers listed were increased demand for products and the public s demand for new products.
Smith also shows that those involved in the agriculture sector would encourage a family member or friend to enter the field.
