2009 saw the Saugeen Rail Trail continue down a positive path.
Association President Bruce Alexander says the key connecting link — restoration of the Mill Creek bridge — was completed.
He says the bridge travels 80 to 100 feet above the creek and has also become a popular route for wildlife, noting deer are routinely seen walking across it.
Alexander says the other major development was the link to rail trail the new Gore Drain trail connection provides between Port Elgin and MacGregor Point Provincial Park.
As for 2010, Alexander says they need to focus on maintenance and signage.
He says now that most of the trail corridor is established, they want to make sure it’s properly looked after, and that loop trails within the town network are promoted to users.
The Saugeen Rail Trail Association will hold its annual meeting on March 29th at the Port of Fellowship Baptist Church in Port Elgin.
