World Vision Canada has airlifted nine planeloads full of medical supplies and food to Haiti since Friday, and relief worker Steve Mathews says a lot Haitians are now getting help.
In an exclusive interview with Bayshore Broadcasting News — Mathews criticized the armchair quarterbacks in the International media who have complained about the speed with which help is reaching those in need.
He says considering the conditions they face, he feels they are getting food and supplies out as quickly as humanly possible.
Mathews — a native of London, Ontario — is one of the first responders to disasters around the World.
He was one of the first World Vision representatives after the Tsunami in 2004 and he was in Haiti two days after the quake.
World Visions’ headquarters in Haiti has been destroyed by the quake of last week and they are basically set up outside and in a smaller building nearby.
A dozen World Vision workers were in a hotel overnight including Mathews, and they were jolted out of bed around 6 yesterday morning by a 6.1 earthquake.
None of the workers was injured, but all were shaken by the aftershock.
