The change in building statistics in Saugeen Shores, from one year to another has been quite stunning.
Chief Building Official Jim Bell says the difference from 2008 to 2009 is more than half.
In 2008, the town realized 62-million-dollars of construction.
Last year that number was only 30.8 million.
Bell says there’s no doubt the economic recession played a big part in the drop in numbers.
Residential took a big hit from year to year.
Bell says in 2008, there was 18 million dollars worth of high density residential build on the books.
In 2009, that number is approximately three million.
Despite the numbers, Bell believes 2010 could be a good year.
He says a lot of permit applications were made late in 2009 and he hopes those projects will move ahead this year.
