It’s some good news from the tragedy unfolding in Haiti following a 7.0 earthquake that hit that country.
There had been concern about a group of local residents doing missionary work in that country including South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Gwen Gilbert.
An email has now been received by Ellen Farrow — a member of the Sauble Christian Fellowship Church.
Pastor David Oppertshauser is in Haiti and describes in his email the quake and how the 53 church members quickly rushed to the aid of quake victims.
He says the quake started with a rumbling and a roar and it seemed it lasted for a full minute with concrete walls shaking and rattling.
Pastor Oppertshauser goes on to say all members of the team were quickly and safely outside of the residences.
He says from their vantage point clouds of dust could immediately be seen from the nearby villages and the capital of Port Au Prince.
Within a few minutes they were being orgnaized to work a clinic, assisting the medical team to treat patients coming from as far away as Port Au Prince approximately 45 minutes away.
Pastor Oppertshauser says they worked all night long helping look after the injured.
He says the damage from the quake is quite extensive and widespread.
Farrow says she will try and forward additional emails to keep everyone updated on the situation in Haiti.
The group was scheduled to return next Wednesday.
