Development charges in Saugeen Shores are taking a drop.
The charges are indexed to the Construction Price Index, the inflation rate for construction and building materials.
That rate had decreased by 5.1 per cent in December 2009 and has been applied to the fee schedule.
The overall decrease in the development charge for single and semi-detached dwellings is 227 dollars — putting the fee it 4237 dollars.
That is down from 4464 dollars.
The rate for two bedroom apartments has gone down 169 dollars.
Commercial development charges are now $1.89 per square foot, a 12 cent decrease.
Mayor Mike Smith says the adjustment is based on the construction price index in the previous year — noting it went up in 2008, dropped in 2009, and the town is adjusting the charges to reflect that.
However, Councillor Victoria Serda wishes staff had instead recommended that the charges had gone up according to a recommended increase that will be considered during the budget process.
She says the development charges will be lowered for three months and then could go up again if council decides to follow the original plan of gradually increasing them.
