Grey County OPP have issued an urgent appeal after a high powered rifle was stolen from a truck last night just outside of Owen Sound.
Constable Steve Starr says a Northern Bruce Peninsula man and his wife made a last minute decision to attend an evening show at a theatre complex on the Sunset Strip just west of Owen Sound.
The man had been hunting earlier in the day, so he had a rifle in his possession which he encased and secured within the interior of the truck.
The truck was locked when in the theatre.
When he returned, the vehicle had been entered and the weapon stolen along with some other things.
Star says the weapon is described as Marlin lever action 30-30 bearing the serial number W32723.
He says what is especially worrisome is that it usually young people who target vehicles looking for items they can sell quickly for case.
Star says the idea someone like that may be in possession of a high powered rifle is very troubling.
Starr hopes that whoever stole the gun is now having second thoughts and will get a hold of crimestopers anonymously and arrange to hand over the weapon to police.
He says their number one priority is getting that firearm back.
