Nine people are waiting for an answer.
The nine fired off a letter to Premier Dalton McGuinty last month urging that an inquiry be called into the operation of the Bluewater District School Board.
They gave the premier until today to reply.
So far he hasn’t.
One of the founders of Bluewater Citizens for Education, Lesa McDougall of Holstein says she believes the education system is heading quickly towards the shambles state, not only locally but across the province.
McDougall says her concerns go beyond the apparent lack of transparency and accountability from the Board of Trustees and the administration.
She says schools need to be a safe place where students can go to learn and it’s not the case.
McDougall, a former teacher within the system, related to a story where she had to pull her child out of school because he was being assaulted by other students.
She says Premier McGuinty has labelled himself as the “Education Premier” then he should be responding and following through with the request.
McDougall says the problems both locally and elsewhere can’t be fixed without the recognition that there are huge problems and the will of the government to do something about it.
She says that “will” is not there at present.
Meanwhile, Peter Ferguson of Kimberley, who identified himself as one of the founders of the group and a signee of the letter, was more blunt.
He says the Director of Education has got to go and any Superintendent within the system that enabled the director to do what he feels is going on.
Ferguson says the organization seems to be damaging students, parents, teachers and trustees.
He says we need a new organization and with that comes a new Director of Education.
