The fiscal road is looking a lot smoother for Meaford in the new year, after the municipality hit a few large speed bumps in 2009.
Mayor Francis Richardson says despite the municipality being in a deficit situation council has bought in to the five year plan designed to bring them out of the red and he pleased with the measures staff have put together.
Richardson also says once the 2009 results are available, he is sure that the public will be pleased with with council has managed to accomplish.
It wasn’t just the financial hurdles that were causing problems, but also some of the conflicts between council members themselves that hindered the municipality moving forward.
Mayor Richardson says he believes that all of council is now going in the same direction and hopes that continues, because that is critical to ensure their five year plan gets completed.
Looking ahead, the Mayor says Council also has to deal with the loss of more than 140 thousand dollars in provincial revenue.
He says they will be sitting down early in the new year and begin reviewing the budget to see what additional savings can be made to make up for the loss of that funding.
