Despite a tough economy — the Salvation Army Kettle Campaign’s in Owen Sound and Port Elgin were huge successes.
Captain Colin Bain says the target for the Owen Sound drive was 58 thousand dollars — and a week before it ended he thought they would fall about 8 thousand dollars short.
A call for help to Bayshore Broadcasting News led to a big boost in donations during the last week of the drive which ended on Christmas Eve.
Captain Bain says in fact, they beat the target and brought in a total of 62 thousand dollars.
In Port Elgin, Captain Bain says the goal was 12 thousand dollars and the drive brought in 24 thousand.
He says they added an extra Kettle at the Wal Mart super store and that brought in a lot of cash.
The money goes to buying food for the less fortunate in our community at Christmas and thru most of the year.
