41 per cent of the respondents to our recent online news survey say the H1N1 virus and the flu shot rollout was the top Canadian news story of the past year.
One person says while the recession was a big story, H1N1 was even bigger throughout the entire year with a ‘never ending’ vaccination roll out campaign.
Another respondent says H1N1 was the top story because the vaccination campaign was very badly mismanaged by the Feds and caused havoc at the local level.
Coming in second place in our survey was the ‘other’ category with 20 per cent of respondents selecting that option.
One person says the top news story honour should go to the fire at the Chapman’s ice cream plant in Markdale and another says it should go to the UN climate change summit in Copenhagen.
There was a tie for third in the Bayshore Broadcasting News survey for top Canadian news story of 2009.
Both the economy and the Olympic Torch Relay received 18 per cent of the votes.
And the NHL off ice battles, with Jim Balsillie failing to get the Phoenix Coyotes, came in last with 2 per cent.
