We’ve been counting down for months — and the day has finally arrived.
The Olympic Torch is in Grey Bruce today.
It arrives in Owen Sound tonight with a full roster of events leading up to the visit.
Olympic Torch Committee Media Chair John Prettie says a Family Carnival is planned for 1st Avenue West centred around the library and St. Andrews Church.
There’s a long list of entertainment including The Becketts, clowns and games for the kids as well as dancers and members of the Owen Sound Attack.
The carnival runs from 1 PM to 4 PM.
At 4 PM — the market square opens featuring local artisans and food.
The main event starts at city hall at 6 PM with a huge stage, lights and jumbo-tron set up by the Vancouver organizing committee.
Prettie says once again a list of local talent will take to the stage for the two hour show.
The highlight will be the lighting of the cauldron by Jason Crone, local paralympian.
Prettie says the torch will arrive at Owen Sound city limits at 6:30 PM and head down 10th Street West to 2nd Avenue East.
Organizers are hoping residents will line the streets to welcome the 14 vehicle caravan.
Parking downtown will be at a premium so Prettie says they’ve organized shuttles which will leave the Bayshore Community Centre every 15 minutes starting at 4:30 PM.
