West Grey is welcoming the Olympic Torch in style.
There is a huge day of activities planned for tomorrow when the torch will make its way along Highway 6 into Durham and over to Hanover.
The West Grey Family Winter Games will include all kinds of activities at the Durham Arena and Community Centre — everything from skating and obstacle courses to the snowball pitch.
Mayor Kevin Eccles says it’s been overwhelming to have West Grey chosen as one of the stops for the torch as it makes its way to Vancouver in time for the Winter Olympics in February.
The Downtown Durham BIA will also encourage business owners to decorate their store fronts in the Olympic theme.
Eccles says it’s lucky the torch is coming through during the week between Christmas and New Year — when many families will be off together to enjoy the festivities.
He calls it a once in a lifetime opportunity for residents.
