Seventy five per cent of all HIV/AIDS deaths occur in Sub-Saharan Africa leaving nearly 12 million children without one or both parents.
That’s why the Kincardine to Kenya (K2K) Project was created.
Executive Board Member Sharon Douglas says they began plans to raise funds in order to construct two houses in Kisumu, Kenya, Africa this past April.
The houses will be built in the Village of Hope – a centre for orphans and widows.
Douglas says the goal was to raise 40 thousand dollars to build the two homes, and they’ve done that through various fundraisers over the past year.
She says they are sending a team down to construct the homes which will each house eight AIDS orphans and a surrogate parent as a house mother.
They leave February 11th and stay for two weeks and each volunteer pays their own way.
Douglas says while there will be time at the end of the trip for sightseeing – until that point work will be hard.
She says there is no power or running water and all work is done by hand.
