An affordable housing unit in Wiarton is almost shovel ready.
South Bruce Peninsula Council has approved the zoning by-laws for affordable housing and a women’s shelter.
Miracle Place — to be located on the corner of Watson Street — will include six affordable housing rental units.
And across the lot will be a second stage Women’s House of Grey Bruce with three rental units.
Mayor Gwen Gilbert says after the 20 day appeal period is over they will be moving quickly to break ground.
Gilbert says they have received 70 thousand dollars per unit in federal and provincial funding and the largest portion of the money has to be spent before March 2010.
Back in August, owner of an apartment building in Wiarton, Nancy Steffler declared she will be taking an appeal to the Ontario Municipal Board when the project was first approved.
The total cost of the project is 800 thousand dollars.
