An early Christmas present for those on Brockton’s municipal water system.
There will be no water or sewer rate increases for 2010.
This will impact Walkerton residents, and those on the municipal water system in Chepstow and Lake Rosalind.
Mayor Charlie Bagnato says staff were instructed to bring the budget in at no increase.
With the struggling economy, Brockton Council did not want to burden residents with any increases.
Bagnato hopes the municipality will be able to follow suit in many of the other department budgets.
In order to keep rates frozen, Brockton has had to put off doing any major capital water or sewer projects for the new year.
The biggest one taking place in 2010 will be a 280 thousand dollar water main replacement project on the west hill main.
While there is no increase for 2010, the rates will likely rise in 2011.
Over the next year Brockton is creating a five year water and sanitation capital plan.
