Despite the recession, construction in South Bruce Peninsula is holding steady compared with a year ago.
Chief Building Official Wayne McFadden says in the first 11 months of 2009 — 367 construction permits were taken out compared with 338 a year ago.
Total value of the construction is 16.6 million dollars, down from just over 21 million in 2008.
McFadden says the reason the value is down, is that some large contracts were awarded a year ago.
In 2008, there was 2.5 million dollars worth of work done on the water plant, 1.3 million spent on the medical clinic at Sauble Beach and 1.5 million on the OPP office at Wiarton.
As far as new home construction is concerned, 47 permits have been issued in the first 11 months of the year, worth 10.2 million dollars.
That compared with 46 permits last year, worth 9.9 million dollars.
