The new year is looking to be better for industry in Collingwood.
With RBC reporting today the economy is set for recovery in 2010, Mayor Chris Carrier says there are signs locally.
Carrier says Pilkington and MacLean Engineering had to layoff workers earlier this year and have now been able to recall many of them.
Carrier says MacLean’s has also just recently shipped some mining equipment to Chile.
V.O.A — which makes seatbelt webbing — has received more work from other places because of the quality of the product at the Collingwood plant.
Carrier says another example of local business doing well is Barber Glass.
He says some capacity from the Guelph plant has moved to the Collingwood facility so workers are keeping busy.
RBC predicts real gross domestic product will rise by 2.6 percent next year and will continue to expand in 2011.
This year, the economy contracted at an average of 2.5 percent.
