West Grey is considering a moratorium on wind farms.
Mayor Kevin Eccles says council has been presented with a petition signed by residents in the Durham area, where NextEra Energy is planning a wind farm.
The turbines east of Durham would be the first in West Grey.
Eccles says people in the community are concerned about the possible health effects posed by wind turbines and want an independent study conducted.
He says residents also question whether West Grey is a suitable location for wind turbines and want to see a study done on meteorological reports.
Eccles says another major concern is the effect wind turbines would have on property values and how people would be compensated.
At this point, Eccles refuses to say if council will support the petition and pass a motion calling for a moratorium on wind turbines.
He also will not get into how he personally feels about the issue.
Instead, the mayor says he wants the issue to come before council so they can have an open and frank discussion about it.
He believes that will happen during the council meeting on December 21st.
Grey County council has passed a motion calling for a moratorium until a health study is completed.
Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Murdoch also introduced a private member’s bill to that effect in the legislature but it was defeated.
