The Owen Sound Fire Department needs your help making this Christmas a special one for children in need.
Acting Captain Wayne Flood says demand is up for their annual toy drive.
The firefighters gave toys to 723 local children in 2008 and that number is expected to exceed 800 this year.
Flood says donations of toys are coming in – but not for one particular age group.
He says they are desperately in need of gifts for boys between the ages of 6 and 14.
Flood is appealing to anyone thinking about making a charitable donation this holiday season to take this need into consideration.
He says it’s important that all children have something waiting for them under the tree on Christmas morning.
Flood says they’re looking for toys that would appeal to young boys, whether they be sports-related or educational.
He also says financial donations would really help in this situation, allowing the firefighters to purchase exactly what they need for the names on their list.
Donations are being collected at the fire hall on 3rd Ave East, and at many businesses and restaurants across the city.
Flood says off-duty firefighters are going to deliver the toys this Friday December 18th, so they really need people to step up over the next few days.
Any donations after that date will still be accepted by the firefighters and given to other organizations in need.
