A student at Sacred Heart Secondary School in Walkerton is taking a much deserved break from science fairs.
At only 14 years old, Jenna Schlorff from Hanover has already had some of her work published.
Her article, “Think Fast”, was printed in the summer edition of Accident Investigation Quarterly, a scientific police journal.
Schlorff’s report came from a science fair project comparing incandescent and LED brake lights, which she did while still at Holy Family School in Hanover.
She was testing their safety and looked into which ones people respond faster to and which ones last longer.
Schlorff says she found in both cases, LED lights come out on top.
Not only have her findings been published – they could also lead to changes in the industry.
Schlorff says she has written to several automotive manufacturing companies and they have replied they will look into her research.
Schlorff says it would be great if changes were made and lives were saved.
The Grade 9 student hopes to enter a career in the medical field – and says she is taking a break from science fairs this year.
Both she and older sister Megan have had great success at both Bluewater fairs and the Canada Wide Science Fairs.
