Compared to other municipal projects, it is not an expensive request — but it is an important one.
Saugeen Shores Police Chief Dan Rivett wants council to include 15 thousand dollars in the 2010 budget to hire a consultant to look at a needs assessment and conceptual drawings for an expansion of the police station.
Rivett says ten years after the current six thousand square foot station was built, they’re finding they have no space to properly get work done.
He says the police force had very little space when they moved into the building a decade and two chiefs ago.
Rivett notes former Police Chief Paul Brown suggested a 10 thousand square foot building was needed at that time.
Chief Rivett would like to see an addition made to the police station in 2012, but notes it’s up to council to decide.
