One of the people behind a massive study of the health of Ontarians will be in Owen Sound this afternoon and this evening.
Doctor John McLaughlin will be speaking to Owen Sound Council to explain about the Ontario Health study this evening.
Plus he will also meet with volunteers staffing the study assessment centre at the Cancer Society office.
Owen Sound is one of only three communities in Ontario to be chosen to take part in this broadly based health study which is designed to learn more about the cause of Cancer, Heart Disease and Diabetes.
Dr. McLaughlin says in Grey Bruce already — about 800 people have signed up to take part in the study, but he would like to see the total number climb to about 2000 by the spring.
He says once the study is fully underway any information they uncover about the possible cause of disease will be immediately shared with the Grey Bruce Medical Officer of Health, and other health units across the Province.
Dr. McLaughlin says they are looking for people in the between the ages of 35 and 69 living in the community regardless of their health status who only have to go through a two hour initial interview process to get involved.
