The President and CEO of Bruce Power is on the road again.
This time he’s part of an Ontario trade mission to India that will focus primarily on energy.
Duncan Hawthorne says the 9-day junket has been in the planning stages for sometime.
Hawthorne says because of his role as chair of the World Association of Nuclear Operators, he has had constant contact with many of the Indian leaders in the energy sector.
He says the province is hoping there will be many synergies between the technologies of Ontario and India.
Hawthorne says it’s a great market to tap.
He says Indian officials are planning to build, from scratch, facilities that will produce 140,000 megawatts of power a year.
In comparison, Ontario only produces 30 thousand megawatts.
Hawthorne says the expansion program is massive and Indian officials see nuclear energy as being a key part of the puzzle.
Hawthorne says the provincial contingent will travel to several locations in the country including New Delhi and Mumbai.
He says he’s aware of the unrest in those areas but the trip has been well-planned and security has been set.
Hawthorne says you can’t give in to extremists and not conduct this type of business so they will be aware of the problems but continue on nevertheless.
