Deciding what to wear for school could become a thing of the past for St. Mary’s high school students.
Students are being asked to participate in a school uniform survey.
Student Trustee Joe Cassidy encourages his fellow students to keep an open mind and consider the pros and cons of a school uniform.
Over the next coming weeks a school uniform education campaign will kick off in the school.
Cassidy says this is an initiative of the School Advisory Council.
He says in the past school uniforms have always been shot down at St. Mary’s.
But Cassidy feels school uniforms may actually have a chance this time around as they promote the idea and poll students.
Cassidy supports school uniforms – He points to research that shows when uniforms are introduced — academics improve.
He adds school uniforms also provide safety benefits by clearly identifying who is suppose to be in the school and who is not.
Durham’s St. Peter’s and St. Paul’s school is the only school in the Bruce Grey Catholic School Board with it’s own school uniform.
