The Mayor of South Bruce Peninsula called in the OPP to try and have a Councillor ejected from a meeting, but the police declined to act.
Mayor Gwen Gilbert had first ordered the acting CAO Rhonda Cook to call the police on Tuesday and have councillor Dan Kerr removed from the Chambers.
When Cook refused, Mayor Gilbert left the Committee of the whole meeting in Wiarton and called Bruce Peninsula OPP herself.
An officer responded, but said the police could not remove a duly elected councillor from a meeting.
Dan Kerr tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the latest dust-up, was over a report to council that Mayor Gilbert attended 11 conferences in the past year.
Under a bylaw, each member of council can attend three meetings a year, and beyond that must get the permission of council to attend other meetings.
Kerr says they must also file a report to council after those conferences.
At yesterday’s committee of the whole meeting the acting CAO left briefly — saying she felt harrassed.
She returned for the remainder of the meeting after the OPP left.
Councillor Kerr says despite the distractions created by the Mayor, council is getting it’s work done.
