The protest sit in by Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Murdoch may have ended but his action generated lots of support from his constituents.
Callers to the CFOS Open Line Wednesday overwhelmingly supported what Murdoch was doing at the Legislature to try and force the Provincial Government to hold public hearings on the HST outside of Toronto.
Of the 35 callers 29 of those applauded the outspoken MPP for taking a stand on the issue and bringing public attention to the HST issue.
Of the six callers who opposed Murdoch actions — several suggested this was nothing more than grandstanding by the politician and he was showing disrespect for parliament by ignoring the Speakers ruling.
Murdoch supporters say the MPP was only doing what had to be done as the Liberal Government had shut out the public as far as any chance to comment on the controversial taxation proposal.
Murdoch admits he can’t force the Liberal government to hold public hearings on the merging of the provincial sales tax with the GST next July.
But he insists the protest wasn’t in vain because they’ve helped people realize the provincial Conservatives oppose the HST.
