The Hanover and District Hospital wants to ensure its ready for a pandemic.
This preparedness goes well beyond medicine and staffing.
In order to ensure fairness for all, the Hanover Hospital is creating an ethics pandemic plan.
Ethics Committee Chair Barb Lansink says this plan will tackle difficult issues like limited vaccines during a crisis.
She says the ethics pandemic plan will outline how these difficult decisions will be made.
Lansink says the Ethics Committee will ensure all the decisions will be made fairly through committees.
She says this means no favouritism, it doesn’t matter who you know the proper ethical protocols will be followed.
Meantime the hospital itself says its ready for a pandemic and has put a lot of work into preparing for such a scenario.
