There are still open positions at Blue Mountain Resort for job seekers.
Shelley Tripp with Human Resources at the resort says they have had a really good fall recruitment so far, and it may even be the best is the past few years.
She says there are well ahead of pace, and much of the recruiting is done, but there are some positions left.
Tripp says about 60 to 70 positions still need to be filled, and most of those are in food and beverage.
She says the quality of the applications Blue Mountain is getting is up as well, and Tripp says there’s no doubt that the increase in the quality of applicants is due to the current economic situation.
She says the resort has also seen an excellent return rate for past employees this year too.
Blue Mountain usually has about 40 to 50 percent of employees from the previous season return, which Tripp says is good for seasonal work.
But she says they have seen a return rate of over 50 percent this year in many departments, and some even have a 60 to 70 percent rate.
Tripp also says more local people will be hired on this year.
She says in the past few seasons they have taken part in a foreign worker program, but because the resort had some very early indicators that this season would be a very good one for recruitment, Tripp says the resort is happy to say they’ll be hiring locally for almost all positions.
She says during the winter season Blue Mountain brings in about 800 people seasonally, and about 400 new workers are recruited each year.
Resort Spokesperson Kelly O’Neill says they have renovated the South Base Lodge as well.
She says it opens up the facility, and expands seating to 980 for dining, and there is now a new child care area.
O’Neill says they’ve also done grading around the hill in that area so the focus here is much more beginner oriented.
