Progressive Conservative MPP’s continue to protest the proposed harmonized sales tax.
Members walked out of the Ontario legislature Monday over the fact the Premier wouldn’t hold public hearings on the controversial tax.
Simcoe Grey MPP Jim Wilson says they are getting frustrated, and the walkout was a statement.
Wilson says PC leader Tim Hudak made a commitment that their party will use every tool possible to fight the HST, and the walkout was one of those tactics.
Wilson claims it is the single largest tax change in most people lifetimes in the province, and even though the most minor bills imaginable have public hearings, Dalton McGuinty is refusing to hold hearings on the HST.
Wilson says obviously the Premier knows this will be a 3 billion dollar tax increase, and will hit all the basic things people need to live everyday.
He notes the average family is projected to see a two thousand dollar increase every year on basic goods.
And Wilson says McGuinty is going against his mantra of being open and transparent by refusing to have public hearings.
He says people all over the province are getting angry, and Wilson hopes there will be backlash.
Wilson says the Liberal government has also notified MPP’s that they are bringing in a closure motion.
That means the government will close down any minimal debate in the legislature.
And Wilson says the House hours will also be extended until Christmas so the HST can be rammed through.
He says it looks as though the Liberals hope to get it all over with by Christmas so people will just forget about it.
Wilson says their party will do whatever they can to slow down that process.
