It’s one way to put a face to farming.
The 2010 Faces of Farming Calendar is out and it has a Bruce County Connection this year.
Formosa area crop farmer Blair Scott is Mr. November in this year’s publication which is put out by the Ontario Farm Animal Council in an effort to promote Ontario food and the agriculture sector.
Kelly Daynard is the Program Manager for the Council and says this year’s calendar feature a record number of Ontario farmer sand farm families from all sectors of the agricultural economy.
She says Blair Scott was nominated to be in the Calendar by the Farmers Feed Cities campaign.
Daynard says this year the cover photo features all 30 members of the Barkey family, dairy farmers from the Oshawa area and this is the largest group ever photographed in the calendars history.
She says other sectors of agriculture represented on the calendar come from the beef, chicken pork and turkey sectors to more unique items like bison, cauliflower sunflower and more.
Daynard says this calendar also debunks the stereotypical image of a farmer wearing a plaid shirt and being a bit of a hick.
She says the people in this calendar are just the opposite, well educated, well spoken and passionate about the farming business.
Daynard says the calendar shows that more and more young people are getting into farming as a profession.
