The Green Party of Canada considers Bruce Power and other nuclear generating plants like it, money sinkholes.
Green Party leader Elizabeth May tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the covering cost overruns with taxpayers dollars amounts to nothing but subsidies to a “nuclear white elephant.”
May says her party would rather retrofit buildings across Canada, providing jobs and cutting down on greenhouse gases and she says, a lot cheaper than feeding nuclear facilities dollar after dollar.
She says wind turbines are a very big part of the solution to reducing greenhouse gases.
May understands there is concern over health problems for those that live near the turbines but she suggests future farms be built off the shoreline of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay to eliminate the problem.
Bottom line, May wants to see Bruce Power in Kincardine and facilities like it, shut down.
She says it’s tough to say especially since many Green Party supporters work at the Bruce.
But her party sees a phase out of nuclear energy in favour of green energy down the road.
On another subject, May says based on what she’s seeing in the House of Commons, she predicts a spring general election.
