More and more Grey Bruce residents will roll up their sleeves for the H1N1 flu shot.
The Grey Bruce Health Unit has eliminated the priority list — and now everyone over six months of age can get the vaccine.
The first opportunity is today at the clinic at the Port Elgin United Church from 3 PM till 7 PM.
Medical Officer of Health Doctor Hazel Lynn says they have received nine thousand more doses of the vaccine so more people can get the shot.
Doctor Lynn also notes the attendance at priority clinics have been steadily decreasing.
Doctor Lynn expects to add more H1N1 clinics but she adds the five remaining in November cover every area of Grey Bruce.
Family Physicians and Family Health Teams in the region have also been instructed to five H1N1 shots to all of their patients over six months of age.
Doctor Lynn notes the H1N1 virus still exists in the region as they are noticing about 20 positive swabs a day of suspected H1N1 cases.
In fact — two local residents have been transferred to a London hospital with the H1N1 virus.
Doctor Lynn feels the worst is over for now since an estimated 60 per cent of Grey Bruce are either vaccinated or immune to the virus because they had H1N1.
But she warns there may be another spike in either H1N1 or seasonal flu cases likely in February.
Parents should also note that children 3 to 9 years of age do not need a second dose of the H1N1 vaccine unless they are sick.
After today’s clinic in Port Elgin, here are the remaining H1N1 flu clinics scheduled for this month in Grey Bruce.
