Georgian College in Owen Sound could have housing available for 28 students by next spring.
Developer Bob Van Dolder has won approval for 20 student rooms on the upper level of the company’s Kitchen and Bath store next to Zehrs in Owen Sound.
Van Dolder says he is going back to the Committee of Adjustment at 3 PM today — hoping to increase that number to 28 student rooms.
Those rooms are roughly 12 by 12 feet and the residence will have shared bathrooms and living room areas.
Van Dolder says three of the 10 bathrooms are smaller “powder rooms” while the other seven have large showers in them.
Workers are cleaning out the existing rooms in the seven thousand square foot space and new construction should begin by Christmas.
That new construction would include moving walls, and soundproofing.
He expects to have the student rooms ready by late April.
It would be Owen Sound’s first student housing project aimed at Georgian College.
